Harvard Law School Executive Education’s Sector Leadership MasterClass is an intense, interactive, 2 day program focused on the challenges and opportunities that the managing partners, other high-level firm leaders, and sector heads face when championing and leading industry sector groups within law firms. Developing effective sector leadership is a strategic imperative for law firms. Our Sector Leadership MasterClass includes modules on:

  • Setting strategic direction;
  • Collaborating across firm boundaries;
  • Leading through influence; and
  • Motivating high-caliber peers.

This MasterClass optimizes participants’ ability to deliver distinctive advantages in their sector-focused work.

 

The Learning Model

Case studies, lectures, classroom discussions, hands-on exercises, and small group discussions focused on law firms and other professional service firms will afford participants the opportunity to discuss the determinants of sustained firm success and effective leadership in such organizations.

With this program, Harvard Law School faculty will bring their unparalleled, research-based expertise in sector leadership to the world’s major legal markets.

The program offers participants perspective, concepts, tools, and skills to help them be successful as emerging leaders in their law firms.

 

Candidates for the Program

The Sector Leadership Program is designed for lawyers leading their law firm’s industry sector groups (Sector Leaders), and Managing Partners, Practice Group Leadership, Regional Managing Partners or others high-level leaders championing this effort.

 

Admission Requirements

Admission is selective and based on the fit between your background and responsibilities and the profile of professionals towards whom the course is targeted. Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. Participants devote time, attention, and intellect to the learning experience; firms assume fees, provide for reasonable expenses, and relieve the participants of their work responsibilities during the program.

Application Process
All applications are acknowledged and all application information is confidential. The Admissions Committee reviews applications and qualified candidates are admitted on a rolling, space-available basis. The Admissions Committee only reviews completed applications.

Program Fee
This fee covers program materials and most meals. Payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date. If admission is less than 30 days from the start of the program, payment is due upon receipt of the invoice.

 

Cancellations
Participants who are unable to attend the program may cancel by submitting a cancellation request to ExecEd@law.harvard.edu. Requests must be received by 5 p.m. Eastern Time 30 days prior to the program’s start to receive a full refund. Due to program demand and the volume of pre-program preparation, cancellations received fewer than 30 days prior to the program’s start are subject to full payment.

Representing various disciplines, they are close to practice through relationships with law firm leaders and General Counsel and through personal involvement as consultants for top firms around the world.
